Dry Needling
Dry needling is a skilled intervention that uses a thin filiform needle to penetrate the skin and stimulate underlying myofascial trigger points, and muscular and connective tissues for the management of neuromusculoskeletal pain and movement impairments.
At Restore Physical Therapy and Pelvic Health, this technique is used to release tight or overactive muscles, decrease pain, improve mobility, improve muscle activation, and restore healthier movement patterns. It allows your therapist to target specific areas of dysfunction that may be contributing to pain or muscular dysfunction.
Your therapist identifies trigger points or areas of muscle tension, then gently inserts a very thin needle into the tissue. You may feel a brief twitch response or a deep, dull ache—both signs that the muscle is releasing.
Dry needling helps:
-
Reduce pain signals
-
Increase blood flow
-
Improve muscle activation
-
Reset the neuromuscular system
-
Accelerate healing
When combined with corrective exercises, manual therapy, and movement retraining, dry needling can significantly speed up your recovery!
